However, quicklime desiccant has strong alkaline corrosiveness, and incidents of harming children's or elderly people's eyes often occur, so it has gradually been phased out.

It is a white porous block, granular, or honeycomb solid. It tastes slightly bitter and is odorless. The aqueous solution is colorless. It is mainly used as a raw material for the production of various other calcium salts in inorganic chemical industry; also used as a gas desiccant and a dehydrating agent in the production of alcohols, esters, ethers, and acrylic resins. In the food industry, it is used as a calcium fortifier, firming agent, chelating agent, desiccant, etc.
