Desiccants are commonly used for moisture prevention. Chemical desiccants dry through hydration, such as calcium sulfate and calcium chloride desiccants; physical desiccants dry through physical adsorption, such as silica gel and activated alumina. So, what type of waste are these used desiccants classified as, and how should they be handled?

Desiccants are commonly used for moisture prevention. Chemical desiccants dry through hydration, such as calcium sulfate and calcium chloride desiccants; physical desiccants dry through physical adsorption, such as silica gel and activated alumina desiccants.

So, what kind of garbage are these used desiccants classified as, and how should they be handled? Let's take a look:
I. Food Desiccants: Food desiccants generally use silica gel, which is non-toxic, odorless, and non-corrosive, and will not harm the human body. After opening the food packaging, if not needed, the desiccant can be directly discarded into the trash can.

II. Quicklime (CaO) Desiccant: If there is a large amount of quicklime desiccant (in tons), it can be recycled to sulfuric acid plants for wastewater treatment, or used to improve acidic soil.

III. Environmentally Friendly Desiccants: Environmentally friendly desiccants are easy to handle; they can be directly thrown into the trash can for garbage disposal.

The above is a brief introduction to the classification and disposal of used desiccants. It is hoped that when using desiccants, everyone will carefully read the precautions and dispose of them in designated trash receptacles to prevent chemical reactions with other items.
