How to use sea freight moisture-proof desiccant (taking containers as an example)
Desiccant Usage for Ocean Shipping
(Taking containers as an example)
1. Container Inspection:
Check if the container is damaged. For example, check if there are holes or cracks on the walls, top, or bottom of the container.
Ensure the container doors can close tightly, and the rubber seals on the doors are in good condition.
Containers must be dry and clean before loading, and avoid immediately using newly cleaned or disinfected
containers.
2. Check the moisture level of the wooden floor in the container.
It is recommended to use a wood moisture meter to check the humidity of the wooden floor inside the container (see left picture), or you can judge the moisture level of the container's wooden floor by visual inspection or by touch.
To avoid increasing the risk of moisture damage to goods during transportation, if possible, it is best not to use containers with wooden floor moisture levels exceeding 20%. If container selection is not possible, the desiccant dosage needs to be increased accordingly, referring to the instructions in the desiccant product manual.
To ensure cargo safety, please do not use containers with wooden floor moisture levels already exceeding 25%.
3. Seal all ventilation holes inside the container.
4. Remove the desiccant from its sealed transparent plastic bag.
Note: Please be careful not to use sharp objects to avoid cutting or puncturing the desiccant.
5. Place the desiccant inside the container.
Hang the desiccant on the safety hooks at the top of the container's inner wall. If needed, use adhesive tape to secure the lower end of the desiccant tightly against the inner wall of the container.
If there are no safety hooks on the container's inner wall, or when there is no space between the cargo and the container's inner wall to place the desiccant, the desiccant can be laid flat on the top layer of the cargo, with both ends secured by tape to prevent the desiccant from sliding during transportation.
