Cross-border e-commerce has become a powerful growth point for China's foreign trade development, with numerous international brands choosing Chinese cross-border e-commerce enterprises as their preferred trade partners for entering the Chinese market. How to strengthen international resource cooperation, leverage the advantages of local industrial clusters, and seize the huge business opportunities brought by the CIIE (China International Import Expo) has also become a hot topic. On November 6, during the upcoming second CIIE, a series of international cross-border e-commerce forums, including the 2019 China International Cross-border E-commerce Development Summit Forum and the 2019 Cross-border E-commerce Promoting Trade Development Forum, will be held as official supporting events. The forums will be themed "A New Global Landscape and New Models: Focusing on Transformation and Upgrading," and will present high-level, high-standard, and high-quality content to global visitors to China.
The 2019 China International Cross-border E-commerce Development Summit Forum (Main Forum), co-hosted by the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the China Chamber of E-commerce, and jointly organized by the Shanghai Hongqiao Business District Management Committee and the Shanghai Minhang District People's Government, will be held on November 6 in the Radisson Hotel, Shanghai Hongqiao West Suburb Villa. More than 1,000 representatives from cross-border e-commerce enterprises are expected to attend. Leaders and guests from the ITC, the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Ministry of Commerce, the China Chamber of E-commerce, the Shanghai Municipal Government, the Shanghai Hongqiao Business District Management Committee, and the Shanghai Minhang District People's Government are invited to attend and interpret macroeconomic policies and analyze the international trade situation. Business associations and enterprises from multiple countries, including Europe, South Korea, Africa, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia, will gather together with e-commerce enterprises such as Ymatou, Pinduoduo, Kaola, Shopee, Jumia, and VIP.com to discuss new cooperation opportunities.
A highlight of the main forum is the strong collaboration between the China Chamber of E-commerce and the ITC, which will establish international cooperation and exchange and talent cultivation as regular and ongoing activities. The two sides will sign a memorandum of cooperation to jointly hold multilateral trade exchange forums to help developing countries participate in international trade through e-commerce. Among the agreed items in the bilateral cooperation memorandum, an "International Cross-border E-commerce Trade Talent Training Base" will be established in Shanghai Minhang District, with key support from the Shanghai Hongqiao Business District Management Committee and the Shanghai Minhang District People's Government. Three cross-border e-commerce sub-forums will be held concurrently in the afternoon: the "China-Europe Development Cooperation Forum," the "China-Korea Cosmetics Themed Matching Meeting," and the "China-Africa Cross-border E-commerce Seminar." More than 100 foreign companies, including well-known Korean cosmetics companies such as Amorepacific Group and MediHeal (L&P Cosmetics Co., Ltd.), will showcase their latest products and engage in close strategic cooperation with Chinese cross-border e-commerce enterprises.
As another supporting event of the CIIE, the 2019 Cross-border E-commerce Promoting Trade Development Forum will be held on November 6 at 2 pm in Meeting Room C001 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). Christian Namy, a French economist and former French Member of Parliament, will deliver a keynote speech on "Global Trade Economic Trends and Global Market Transformation." Professor Wang Jian from the School of International Economics and Trade, University of International Business and Economics, will share his insights on cross-border e-commerce and global market transformation with the attendees and engage in a discussion with guests including Patrick Kessler, President of Swiss Post, Huang Zhiqiang, Vice President of GeTS Global Pte Ltd, and Zhang Tiecheng, Partner and Senior Vice President of Yunji Shared Technology Co., Ltd., on how to build a sound cross-border e-commerce environment.
Meanwhile, Saeed, Senior Trade Policy Advisor at the ITC, will present his latest research findings and deliver a keynote speech. The corresponding Chinese representative is Zhang Weizhi, expert committee member of the China Chamber of E-commerce and professor at Zhejiang University, who will analyze innovative business models in cross-border e-commerce from the perspective of trade facilitation agreements and cross-border e-commerce transformation. He will also engage in a discussion with Li Xinghui, Executive Vice President of Hangzhou Cross-border E-commerce Association, Nuttaporn Voonklinhom, President of the Thai Digital Trade Association, Zhang Longzhu, Vice President of Beibei Group, and Gao Changchun, Vice President of Xingyun Global Hui.
It is noteworthy that this series of international cross-border e-commerce forums is not only forward-looking but also proactive in preparing talent reserves for future innovation and development in cross-border e-commerce. The "Cross-border E-commerce Industry-Education Integration Development Forum," to be held on November 7 at the Shanghai Sibo (Huinan) College, will focus on discussions around "Digital Trade Disciplinary Construction," "New Approaches to Industry-Education Integration," and "Cross-border E-commerce Talent Cultivation." These discussions will interpret the three key elements of the current situation, business opportunities, and talent reserves from different perspectives.
With the annual CIIE being held, numerous cross-border e-commerce events are taking place in the Shanghai Hongqiao Business District. These events will focus on promoting the spillover effects of the CIIE in the Shanghai Hongqiao Business District, effectively facilitating cooperation and exchange between CIIE import exhibitors and the Hongqiao Business District, Minhang District, the Yangtze River Delta region, and well-known domestic e-commerce enterprises and business associations. They will provide logistics, warehousing, display, offline experience, transaction, and service-related businesses, creating a cross-border e-commerce cluster in the Yangtze River Delta region and achieving a synergistic effect of industrial agglomeration. Leveraging the CIIE, cross-border e-commerce will usher in a new era of promoting trade development.
